Beastie Boys Book Deluxe - A Unique Box Set Celebration of the Beastie Boys

Author(s): Frank Owen

Music

The improbable rise to the top of one of hip-hop's most influential and consistently creative groups, from their controversial early days rhyming and stealing in a burnt-out New York City, to the trio's unlikely maturation as high-profile activists for Tibetan human rights, ending with the untimely death from cancer of founding member MCA aka Adam Yauch just as the group was elevated to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. A story about three nice middle-class Jewish boys who brought hip-hop to the masses, forged a template for contemporary hipster style worldwide and continue to serve as a byword for musical integrity and innovation, proof positive that even in the age of American Idol, you can still sell millions of albums by marching to your own unique beat.

The story of hip-hop's original white bad boys is told by someone who knew them all in the early days and who followed their careers through every stage, from spoiled little New York rich kids to globally acclaimed musicians-with-conscience. Author Frank Owen is a man with inside knowledge of what he calls 'the old Def Jam days', and in this unique box set he recounts all from his personal perspective. Drawing on contemporary and new interviews, Frank paints a picture of more than just a band evolving: music was changing and popular culture along with it. All is illustrated by the best contemporary photography and design, and removable facsimile memorabilia will transport you back to the sweaty New York summers of the late 1980s.
